| Freshwater Jellyfish | ||||||||
| The film uses close-up photography, photomicrography, time-lapse photography and drawings to show the stages in the life cycle of a coelenterate, the freshwater jellyfish, Craspedicusta sowerbii. Early scenes show its habitat, collection procedures and feeding behaviour followed by details of the attached polyp stage and free-swimming medusa stage. The film then clarifies sexual reproduction of the medusa stage and the three types of asexual reproduction: frustule formation, buds which remain attached to form a colony, and buds which become medusae. After brief scenes of fossil jellyfish, the film summarises with drawings of the life cycle and live-action photography. | ||||||||
